A Brief History of the Fortune Cookie
The history of the fortune cookie surprisingly begins eight hundred years ago with the figure of Genghis Khan, the great Mongol warrior who, by extending the borders of his Empire throughout Asia, came to dominate a large part of China. This dominance lasted for more than a century, until when, through the weakening of their ruler, the Chinese people began their struggle for freedom.
For years battles were fought. Sensing victory close, the Chinese devised an attack strategy that would finally lead them to the reconquest of their territory. This was magnificently planned but one question still remained: how to transmit it to the countless armies spread across countless other fronts without it falling under the control of the terrible Mongols?
Inside the Solution
At the time, there was a sweet called "moon cake" whose taste was hated by the Mongols. Taking advantage of this, the Chinese placed the plans inside these cakes that were sent to all generals.
Through this action, the Chinese people regained their autonomy, starting the Ming dynasty (the same one, famous for its porcelain) and, to celebrate this feat, the Chinese began to exchange congratulatory messages every year in the same way in which secret messages were sent, inside what can be called "victory cupcakes".
